The After Hours Veterinary Emergency Clinic has been in the business of providing emergency and critical care services for small animal patients after hours for more than 30 years. We do not provide any routine or preventative health care services after hours in an effort to reserve our facility for those patients with the greatest need. If you are uncertain as to if your pet's problem can wait until your daytime veterinarian's office is open, please feel free to contact us. Examples of urgent care conditions include infections, bleeding, toxin ingestion, allergic reactions, trauma, fractures, vomiting or diarrhea, seizures, and inability to urinate or defecate.
In addition, we provide wildlife medical services for the community free of charge to the Good Samaritan that seeks our help. Wildlife species that can be saved are placed with licensed wildlife rehabilitators in preparation for re-release to the wild. Please note that any animal brought in for such services must be legally released to the clinic for care and the Good Samaritan that brings them in must absolve themselves from all rights of ownership and knowledge regarding the outcome of the case. This service is utilized often by the public and taking follow-up calls to release information regarding these cases ties up our staff and takes them away from the medical cases that so greatly require their care.
On site diagnostics available at AHVEC include radiography, ultrasononography, endoscopy, blood chemistry and complete blood count machines, and electrolyte, blood gas, and coagulation analyzers. These tools are routinely used to determine the cause of your pet's problem. In addition, we have dedicated surgical suites on site and emergency surgical procedures are routine at AHVEC. An extensive library of information is available to our veterinarians as well as referral consults with specialists to aid in reaching a prompt and acurate diagnosis. Keep in mind that our veterinarians have dedicated their career to the practice of emergency medicine and we have been in the business of providing this service for more than thirty years in Guilford and the surrounding counties.
